Grab your fishing gear and your kite and lets get to fishing
set your alarm clock, grab your kite and fishing gear. The fun is about to begin.

Welcome to the kite fishing for your health and relaxation site.  This will be an area of your outdoor domain that will teach you about a new type of fun and a successful fishing venture.  My name is K. Dexter Summers.  I have been kite fishing for over 50 years, and I am still learning. I must share this exciting sport with you and hope that it gives  you as much needed therapy as it does me. For those of you that have already entered into this era, I welcome you and hope to learn new things from you. As you probably already know, the one that got away is still waiting for us to try again. Lets get started.

I remember growing up in South Florida and living near the Atlantic Ocean. I did a lot of fishing and always wanted to get my fishing line out as far as I could. I knew that the big ones were farther out. I would put lots of weights on the line and through just as hard as I could. Usually the weights were so heavy that I fell short of my goal.
Then one day while I was flying my home-made kite, I got a brainstorm.  I attached a clothespin to the kites front line and then my fishing line to the clothespin. It just so happened the wind was was blowing in the right direction and the kite took the line of the spool till it was all out. I was so excited about my knew invention. The kite would sway back and forth and move the bait around and in no time at all I got my first strike. as the fish took the bait, the line was pulled out of the clothespin and disconnected from the kite. This left me a free fishing line. I reeled in the biggest fish I had ever caught. It was a 12 pound Eldorado.  I was floating on air.  I had  began my life long hobby of Kite Fishing.

My home-made kites did,nt last to long as they were made from the Miami Herald Newspaper and balsa wood. The water seemed to un-assemble them quickly. I soon found the solution. I went to the hobby store and found a box kite made of light aluminum and foil. It was perfect for my kite fishing outings. I used the same method of attaching the fishing line to the kite with the clothespin for years.

Over time I experimented with all types of kites. One of my favorites was the Birdkite, (shown on my home page.) It seems as thought the fish liked it too. I have used this fishing tactic in lakes, rivers and oceans. I have used the kites while on boats and done just as well as from land. I have caught hundreds of fish from all kinds of species and every time I get a strike, I feel as I did when I first started over 50 years ago. I will not give up, because I still have not caught "the one that got away."

One of the benefits of kite fishing is the movement of the bait by the aircraft. As the wind moves the craft, the craft moves the bait, an attraction action to the fish.

O.k. lets talk about kite fishing when the wind is not blowing out toward the water. Here is what I used to do. I had an inner-tube from a car tire that I tied a small rope around. I attached a five pound brick to the tire to act as an anchor. Now I attached a curtain rod ring to the rope on the tire. (are you following me?) Now I waded out in the water to about my shoulders and dropped the brick to anchor the tire. I attached my fishing line to the clip on the kite and launched the kite. Once airborne the kite line was routed through the curtain ring. Back on shore I tied off the kite and started fishing. The kite was being held out in the water by the tube and was working the bait around and waited for the fish to bite.

KITE FISHING WITH NO WIND:   Ok, lets fly a kite with no wind.  Of course you have to create a wind. In order to do this I use a powered boat. It can be a row boat a motorboat or an inflatable with an electric motor.  With no wind, the water will be calm, and when you get into motion you can launch your Kite Rig. As you move the kite will fly and the movement of the kite will create a movement in the water to attract the fish.  And they said it couldn,t be done.

When kite fishing, it is almost a guarantee to catch the fish that bites the bait.  The secret is when the anything  bites and the line is pulled from the holder on the kite, the anything swims along thinking it has scored. Then all at once the line draws tight and surprise sudden stop. The hook sets and the Disambiguation is caught.  By the way the term anything is a term I use to answer the never ending question from the always standing by onlooker, "catch anything?"

Canoe, kite fishing.  Fishing with a canoe is one thing, however kite fishing with a canoe is like the walking on a tightrope. This one area that takes a little coordination. The very fact that you can kite fish with a canoe, makes you among the chosen few.  Launching the kite and fishing rig, and keeping the canoe ballanced is quite an accomplishment. I will guarantee you that once you have mastered this feat, you will be ready for the circus. If you don,t have a canoe and want to make a small investment here is a great deal.

Floatation kite fishing. I had occaision to fish from a water dock when I was younger. I was mad at myself for not trying my kite back then. I purchased a water dock and towed it behind my boat to an area where the birds were. I anchored  the boat and the dock, launched my kite fishing  gear and bingo, a strike right off the bat.  "or off the dock that is".
I was a little unstable at first but after a while I was adjusted. The catch of the day was a string of nice sea trout. I was glad to have dicovered another way to fish. I had more room and even with a moderate wind and waves around two feet, I was still able to comfortably fish with my rigg. I know if you try this you will be hooked.

The one that almost got away.
A panama city beach Florida lady was drift fishing with her family inside the jetties when she got a strike.  As she reeled in on her spinner, what do you supposed happened? The spinner flanges broke off the rod and separated the reel from the rod. This angler was not about to give up. She grabbed the line with her hands and began to pull in the fish. After several minutes of holding on, the fish was finally pulled into the boat. A fine 4 pound Spanish Mackerel.  This is what I call determination.
